What God Taught Me in My Quietest Moments

A David Great Journal · 04 — THE QUIET

When the noise disappeared, I began hearing things I had been too busy to notice.

“Some of the deepest lessons come when everything around you becomes quiet.”

Learning to Wait

Some seasons are loud.

Problems demand attention. People have opinions. Opportunities come and go. You are constantly trying to figure out what to do next.

Then there are quiet seasons.

Nothing seems to move.

Answers don’t arrive when you expect them to. People become distant. Plans remain uncertain.

At first, I wanted God to change my circumstances.

Eventually, I began wondering whether He was changing me instead.

Waiting is uncomfortable when you want answers immediately.

I wanted clarity.

I wanted direction.

I wanted to understand why certain things were happening.

But the quiet taught me patience.

Not the passive kind where you simply sit and do nothing, but the kind that allows you to keep trusting even when you don’t have the full explanation.

Learning to Listen

I also began paying more attention to what was happening beneath the surface.

My spiritual foundation.

My fears.

My habits.

My expectations.

The things I had been carrying without understanding why they were so heavy.

I started recognizing a spiritual root I hadn’t previously taken the time to understand.

That changed the way I looked at my journey.

What Disappointment Revealed

Disappointment taught me discernment.

Loneliness taught me how to sit with myself.

Failure taught me humility.

Uncertainty taught me trust.

And the quiet taught me to listen.

Not every lesson arrived as an obvious answer. Some came through reflection. Others became clear only after I had lived through the season.

God Was Still There

One of the most important things I learned is that God’s presence isn’t measured by how easy life feels.

There were moments when people didn’t come through.

God remained.

There were questions I couldn’t answer.

He remained.

There were circumstances I desperately wanted to change.

He remained.

That became part of the foundation of my faith.

The Lesson I’m Carrying Forward

Faith doesn’t always give you a detailed map.

Sometimes it gives you enough courage to take the next step without one.

I don’t know everything that lies ahead.

But I no longer believe that uncertainty means I’m walking alone.

The quiet season wasn’t empty.

It was shaping me.

Journal note: Some answers arrive as words. Others arrive as transformation.
